Tohoku Electric Power started supplying NTT Docomo with power generated at Earthsolar’s power plants through an off-site PPA, the companies announced on February 5, 2025.

According to the statement, power supply through the PPA started on January 29, 2025. Approximately 10.6GWh is expected to be supplied annually, covering around 20% of the consumption of the six NTT Docomo buildings in Iwate, Miyagi, Yamgata, Fukushima, and Niigata prefectures to which the power is being delivered.

The power is being generated at six power plants owned by Earthsolar’s ES Solar with a combined capacity of 6.35MWAC/9.4MWDC. Three of the assets are located in Aomori Prefecture, one in Iwate Prefecture, and two in Akita Prefecture. Their construction was subsidized through METI’s program for promoting consumer-led introduction of solar power generation. Project financing was provided by Akita-based Hokuto Bank.

The Japan Energy Hub PPA database shows that this deal was first announced in August 2024 and that NTT Docomo signed multiple other PPAs before that.
While this is Earthsolar’s first PPA, Tohoku EPCO has been involved in several other PPAs as their retailer including in a contract involving the supply of power from a Nozomi Energy-owned 21MWAC/31.5MWDC solar project to JR East.
