I-mobile plans to commission its first grid-scale storage facility in July 2025, the company said on March 17, 2025. The 2MW/8MWh high-voltage asset will be located in Hiki District, Saitama Prefecture, in the Tokyo TSO area.

According to the statement, the power storage station will be built by Sun Village. Once operational, Digital Grid will trade the asset’s power on the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets on i-mobile’s behalf.

The facility will use four containerized Huawei LUNA2000-2.0MWH-2H1 battery systems.

This is the first grid-scale battery storage project to be announced by i-mobile. The publicly traded company engaged primarily in online business has been involved in renewable asset development since 2016. As of the end of last year, the company owned 21 operational solar power plants alongside 90 projects under development. Combined, their capacity was reported to be over 10MW.

Sun Village has been focusing on developing, constructing, and operating renewable assets. In addition to solar, recently, the company has been building up its presence in the BESS industry. It partnered with multiple companies including Mitsubishi HC Capital Energy and ML Power to develop grid-scale storage projects. It is working toward its stated goal of developing 250 facilities totaling 500MW.
