On December 19, 2024, Kurihalant, an industrial construction company and renewable power generator, commissioned its first grid-scale battery storage facility, the 1.999MW/7.596MWh “Chiba Kimitsu Power Storage Station” in Kimitsu City, Chiba Prefecture.

Kansai Electric Power’s wholly-owned subsidiary E-Flow aggregates the BESS facility, trading its power on the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets.

The power storage station is located adjacent to Chiba Futtsu No. 2 Solar Power Plant, on land provided by Chiba Prefecture. It was subsidized by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry’s FY2022 subsidy for the introduction of power storage systems and uses five containerized TMEIC battery systems with LG Energy Solution batteries alongside ABB power receiving equipment and Mitsubishi Electric System & Service monitoring equipment.

Ogawa Densetsu Kogyo and Nagatsuka Kensetsu were in charge of construction, which started in October 2023 and finished in late January 2024. The asset was connected to TEPCO Power Grid’s high-voltage grid in October 2024.

According to Kurihalant’s website, separately from the recently commissioned BESS facility, its renewable portfolio includes a 1.99MW biomass power plant, two small hydroelectric power plants, and a portfolio of eight solar power plants.
