Marubeni Power Retail started offtaking power generated at mid-size wind power plants developed by Sanko Plantec through long-term PPAs, the power retailer announced on November 21, 2024.

As part of the contract, Marubeni Power Retail will purchase power from generators that acquire onshore wind power plants developed through Sanko Plantec’s one-stop service covering the entire process from land acquisition and engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) to operation and maintenance (O&M). The power plants use Sanko Plantec’s 330kW SP330 turbines.

Marubeni Power Retail will sell the purchased power and renewable energy certificates to its customers.

Two power plants using Sanko Plantec SP330 turbines are currently operational in Japan, one owned by the company in Akita Prefecture and commissioned in March 2023, and the other one owned by a hot spring operator in Aomori Prefecture. According to Sanko Plantec’s website, the company currently has six projects under development with four expected to commission in 2025 and two in 2026.

“Going forward, we aim to gradually increase the number of units to around 200,” said Marubeni Power Retail’s statement.
