In October 2024, Marubeni Power Retail commissioned a 2MW/8MWh BESS facility in Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, the company announced on November 18, 2024.

The “Mibugawa Ina Power Storage Station,” which is connected to the Chubu TSO area grid, will be used for trading power in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets. “Marubeni Power Retail will utilize its independently developed grid-connected battery operation optimization algorithm for the operation of this power storage facility,” said the company’s statement.

Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work on the project was handled by Nishimu Electronics Industries, which also provides TAMERBA Cloud, the energy management system used by the lithium-ion battery system supplied for the project by PowerX.

In addition to the recently commissioned project in Ina City, Marubeni is also developing a 25MW/104MWh grid-scale BESS in Kitahiroshima City, Hokkaido, which it plans to commission during next fiscal year.
