Shizen Connect, JERA, and JERA Cross will conduct a project aimed at trialing 24/7 Carbon-free Energy supply, the companies announced on July 10, 2024.

JERA and JERA Cross will aggregate power sources including renewable power plants and storage batteries. The two JERA Group companies will forecast demand and generation of the power plants and charging and discharging plans for the batteries accordingly. Shizen Connect will receive the charging and discharging plans through an API and remotely control the batteries based on them. It will adjust the plans based on real-time data as necessary.

The three companies plan to integrate their systems by the end of 2024 and then, from January 2025 onward, further define the details of the demonstration project including the workflow and start the actual 24/7 CFE experiments. The project schedule for January 2025 and later will be announced once the system integration is finished in December 2024.

“Based on the results, operational methods will be established with the aim of early commercialization,” said the companies.

Shizen Connect is a subsidiary of Shizen Energy focused on the development of a VPP platform. The company raised capital from JERA Ventures in the past and recently it signed partnerships with eight companies including three of Japan’s ten major utilities to secure assets to control and further funding.
