Tokyo Gas and Eneglobal partnered to jointly develop solar power plants, the companies announced on April 21, 2026.
According to the statement, the companies plan to build a portfolio of about 30 power plants totaling 25MW as the first initiative under the tie-up. They target establishing a special purpose company to hold the assets and making the final investment decision in FY2026. Tokyo Gas will purchase all of the output generated by the portfolio and the associated non-fossil certificates (NFCs).
The partners said they plan to collaborate on solar power plant development, including agrisolar, long-term. They aim to leverage Eneglobal’s know-how in the development, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), and operations and maintenance (O&M) of solar power plants and Tokyo Gas’ power retail business.
The gas company has consistently ranked as the largest independent power retailer by supplied volume.
Eneglobal had a 205-plant solar portfolio totaling 175.7MW as of February 2026. The company has primarily been active in Ibaraki Prefecture, where it is based. In 2024, ity partnered in a similar way with Osaka Gas to develop about 15MW under a 50:50 joint venture.
