AI Storm acquired its first grid-scale battery storage project site with plans to build out a portfolio of 20 facilities nationwide within the next three to four years, the TSE Standard-listed IT system integrator and digital signage operator announced on October 1, 2025.
According to the statement, the company acquired the site in Takanabe Town, Miyazaki Prefecture, in August 2025, and began building a 2MW/8MWh storage system on it the following month. The facility will use Huawei BESS units and is expected to be commissioned in May 2026. Digital Grid will handle aggregation once the project is operational.
AI Storm said it plans to invest over 10 billion yen into the portfolio and to partner on projects with municipalities and companies. It expects to be able to leverage its experience with AI in the new business, suggesting a possible future shift toward in-house forecasting and trading plan formulation. The average investment of about 500 million yen per project suggests a focus on high-voltage, 2MW/8MWh-scale assets.
The company was founded in October 1964 and has been publicly traded since September 2003. Like several other companies with limited experience in the energy industry, such as A.D.Works and Star Seeds, AI Storm considers grid-scale storage to be a key pillar of its growth strategy.
