Daiei Sangyo signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Taiwan-based battery manufacturer Truewin Technology and Formosa Japan to enter the grid-scale storage and AI data center business in Japan, the companies announced on October 23, 2025.
According to the statement, the partners will cooperate to develop grid-scale storage facilities in Japan, with Daiei Sangyo aiming to introduce D-Package, a turnkey development and operation service into the market. “The three companies will also jointly establish demonstration sites to promote the long-term development of Japan’s energy storage market and support the future expansion of power trading markets and Virtual Power Plants (VPPs),” said Truewin.
The Gunma-based demolition and recycling company targets procuring 800MWh of batteries for 100 assets across the country under the MoU. It plans to invest about 50 billion yen in the BESS and data center businesses over the next five years, including 3 billion yen to build its own battery storage facilities, strengthen its development function, secure stock, and invest in other activities needed to launch the unit.
Daiei Sangyo said it also plans to install batteries at its own factories, logistics centers, and other facilities to improve resilience, cut peak demand, and reduce power bills. It aims to use the know-how gained through doing so to offer such services to other businesses and local governments.
METI data shows the company’s current involvement in the energy industry includes the ownership of eight feed-in-tariff (FIT) solar projects in Gunma Prefecture totaling 1.6MWAC.
