Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) and its official distributor in Japan, Volt Marketing, signed a supply agreement for 300MWh of batteries with Daihen, the Japanese storage system integrator announced on August 6, 2025. The companies aim to expand the volume to over 1GWh by FY2027.
According to the statement, the contract helps Daihen secure the key part of its integrated grid-scale battery storage systems, which also use the company’s transformers, energy management system (EMS), and other components. It expects the deal to support deployment of 30 high-voltage (sub-2MW) BESS projects and generate over 10 billion yen in revenues. The contract covers the period until March 31, 2026.
Daihen entered the grid-scale BESS market in 2023, when it delivered a 1.5MW/4.6MWh system for Eurus using GS Yuasa batteries alongside EMS and other components developed in-house. In 2024, it began offering its own cabinet-type units.
CATL previously reached agreements with Taoke Energy and Bison Brothers. The company also has direct investments in grid-scale BESS projects in Japan through its joint venture CHC, which recently commissioned its first asset in the country and, separately, won nine contracts in the first two long-term decarbonization auctions.
