GE Vernova launched an energy security and supply chain focus group with METI in Tokyo on June 10, 2025. It signed memorandums of understanding (MoU) with Eurus Energy Holdings and Mitsubishi Electric to expand local ties.
“With the launch of this first-of-its-kind focus group alongside METI, we are taking decisive action toward addressing the challenges facing the global energy sector,” said GE Vernova’s Chief Corporate Officer and Chief Sustainability Officer Roger Martella. The focus group will address topics including wind power, hydrogen and ammonia-fueled gas turbines, carbon capture and storage (CCS), nuclear energy, and electrification.
Under the MoU with Eurus, the companies will promote renewable energy and data center development in northern Hokkaido. The efforts will be carried out as part of GX Industrial Location, a concept outlined in METI’s GX2040 Vision that aims to contribute to regional revitalization and economic growth through the development of industrial zones in areas with abundant renewable potential.
The collaboration with Mitsubishi Electric covers the supply of semiconductor products for GE Vernova’s high-voltage direct current (HVDC) projects.
GE Vernova was formed in 2024 through the spin-off of General Electric’s energy businesses. Its MoU with Eurus follows a separate data center deal with Amazon Web Services announced in March 2025, under which GE Vernova will provide electrification and decarbonization solutions for data centers in North America, Europe, and Asia.
