Gogin Energy completed the construction of its first grid-scale battery storage facility, the 2MW/8.1MWh GE Kurayoshi Power Storage Station in Kurayoshi City, Tottori Prefecture, its parent San-in Godo Bank announced on September 18, 2025.

According to the statement, the fully-merchant project is expected to begin commercial operation in November 2025. The Shimane-based bank said it plans to participate with the asset in wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets but did not disclose which company will handle aggregation. A photo provided with the release suggests the facility uses Huawei containerized BESS units.

San-in Godo Bank established Gogin Energy in July 2022. The wholly-owned subsidiary signed 50 PPAs to date, mainly focusing on developing rooftop solar power plants at local businesses in the Chugoku area. The company also signed off-site PPAs with Yonago City, Sakaiminato City, and its parent, and built ground-mounted assets for on-site PPAs.

Gogin Energy joins a growing list of companies building 2MW/8MWh-scale battery storage facilities. The parent company said it is the first renewables-focused subsidiary of a bank to enter into grid-scale BESS. It did not disclose future project plans.
