JA Mitsui Lease acquired three grid-scale battery storage projects under development in the Chubu TSO area from Sun Village, the latter announced on September 20, 2024. The three projects are expected to commission between March 2025 and January 2026.

While Sun Village sold the projects, it will remain involved with them as the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contractor. JA Mitsui Lease’s wholly-owned subsidiary JA Mitsui Energy Solutions will manage the assets, which will be operated by JMES BESS ONE LLC, a special purpose company it established earlier this year.

All three projects will be 1.990MW/7.403MWh and use “Mega Power” batteries manufactured by Power X, the company which will also be in charge of controlling the batteries. The projects will be located in Tsu City, Mie Prefecture; Chita District, Aichi Prefecture; and Makinohara City, Shizuoka Prefecture, respectively, and are scheduled to commission in March and July 2025 and January 2026.

These three projects are the first in a series of projects that will be developed based on an agreement signed by JA Mitsui Lease and Power X in May of this year. In total, the two companies are aiming to develop 30 battery storage plants in the next three years.
