Renova launched the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 288MW onshore wind project in Embetsu Town and Shosambetsu Village, Hokkaido.
According to a primary environmental impact consideration document submitted to METI and relevant local governments on June 23, 2025, the company aims to install up to 36 turbines, 4.2MW to 8MW each, spread across an approximately 2,200ha site along the border of the two municipalities.
At this stage, Renova plans to begin construction in May 2031. It targets May 2036 COD, after completing construction and trial operations in April 2036.
While operational wind capacity around the planned Embetsu-Shosambetsu project is limited, Eurus Energy Holdings is undergoing EIA for an up to 680MW onshore asset along the coast of the two municipalities and Teshio Town.
Renova currently has a stake in one operational wind project in Japan, the 147MW Abukuma in Fukushima Prefecture, which was developed jointly with Sumitomo Corporation, JR-EAST Energy Development, and other partners. The company is also building the first project in which it participates as the lead developer, the 54.6MW Reihoku-Amakusa in Kumamoto Prefecture.
By FY2030, Renova’s medium-term management plan targets additional 400MW of onshore operational and under-construction capacity.
