Tokyo Gas began supplying power from the 2MWAC/3MWDC RYM Ogishima Solar Power Plant to multiple district heating and cooling centers within Tokyo operated by its unit Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions, the company announced on August 12, 2025.
According to the statement, the power plant is located at Tokyo Gas’s Ogishima LNG Terminal in Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, and was completed on August 8, 2025. The gas company oversaw engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) in-house, with construction outsourced to Daiwa Energy, Sata Road, and other companies.
The project was awarded an approximately 196 million yen subsidy under Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s scheme for supporting PPAs supplying facilities within the metropolis from assets located in other prefectures. The program covers one-half of eligible capital expenditures for physical and one-third for virtual PPA schemes.
RYM Ogishima follows the 17.5MWAC/21.9MWDC Ichikai Solar Power Plant commissioned in Tochigi Prefecture in 2023, which was the first large-scale solar power plant developed and built by Tokyo Gas, via its subsidiary Prominet Power. More recently, the company acquired a 27MWAC/34MWDC project in Koga City, Ibaraki Prefecture, jointly with Shikoku Electric Power.
