SNG Holdings and its partners began trial operation of the 2MW/6MWh Gotemba High-Voltage Power Storage Station on October 15, 2025, ahead of its planned November 2025 COD, the companies announced on the same day.
According to the statement, the asset will be aggregated by Digital Grid. It was built on an approximately 710m2 project site in Gotemba City on the Tokyo TSO-side of Shizuoka Prefecture and uses cabinet-type Gotion battery systems.
The Akita-based SNG Holdings, a renewable developer associated with the construction company Sangi, holds an 87.10% stake in the project special purpose company Gotemba Koatsu Chikudensho LLC. Digital Grid Asset Management owns 10.75%. The remaining 2.15% is split between PHOTON CAPITAL and PHOTON JAPAN.
Gotemba High-Voltage Power Storage Station is the lead developer’s first storage facility. The company said it plans to leverage the experience from the Shizuoka project to develop over 300MW of grid-scale BESS in the Tohoku TSO area. Prior to expanding into batteries, the Akita-based group has developed and built over 200MW of solar power plants.
The project is also the first investment in grid-scale BESS made by PHOTON.
Digital Grid, which has been focusing on building a PPA matching and renewable asset aggregation business, has been expanding into grid-scale storage development and ownership through its asset management arm using proceeds from its April 2025 IPO.
