Daigas G&P Solution’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sodegaura Biomass Power Generation commissioned the 75MW Sodegaura Biomass Power Plant in Chiba Prefecture on July 8, 2025.

The power plant will use wood pellets and its output will be sold to TEPCO Power Grid under a feed-in-tariff (FIT) contract. When the project was under the scheme in FY2016, standard woody biomass assets were offered 20-year, 24 yen per kWh contracts.

Osaka Gas announced its decision to build the project in July 2018. The asset began commercial operation about three years behind the originally planned July 2022. Chiyoda Corporation handled the project’s engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC). At the time of contract award, Chiyoda said it was considering using equipment from Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction and that it would be in charge of maintenance for two years after COD.

The project, sited at Asahi Kasei’s Chiba Factory and NC Tokyo Bay’s adjacent premises, is the seventh operational biomass power plant with investment from Osaka Gas. It follows the 50MW Hyuga commissioned in October 2024 in which the gas company owns a 35% stake and the 75MW Aichi Tahara commissioned in November 2024, of which it holds 25%.
