On December 9, 2024, ENEOS Renewable Energy submitted a draft of the environmental impact assessment methodology document for the up to 270MW “Soya Kyuryo Minami” onshore wind project it is currently developing in Hokkaido.
According to the methodology document, the scope of the project has been scaled down compared to the initial up to 354MW plan outlined in the “document on primary environmental impact consideration” submitted in September 2023 to kick-off the environmental impact assessment project. Correspondingly, the latest plan sees the project consist of up to 45 4.2MW to 6MW turbines instead of the initially planned up to 59.
ENEOS Renewable Energy plans construction on the project, which sits on the border of Toyotomi Town, Wakkanai City, and Sarufutsu Village, around May 2027 and commission the power plant around August 2032.
Once the methodology receives feedback from the relevant stakeholders and is finalized, ENEOS Renewable Energy will proceed with the actual environmental impact assessment, which is required before the project’s construction work can commence.
