Sustainable Holdings is building its first grid-scale battery storage project, a 2MW/8.3MWh facility in Matsusaka City, Mie Prefecture, in the Chubu TSO area, the company announced on December 3, 2025.

According to the statement, the project is expected to begin trial operation in February 2026, with COD planned for June 2026. Once operational, it will participate in the wholesale, balancing, and capacity markets. Sustainable Holdings did not disclose whether an aggregator for the asset has already been selected.

The facility will use 20 417kWh cabinet-type battery units marketed under the company’s brand.

Sustainable Holdings said it plans to continue developing grid-scale battery storage assets. The company entered into renewables in 2011 and has developed over 100MW of solar projects across all nine mainland TSO areas. Outside the energy sector, it has been developing an atmospheric water generator and operating glamping resorts.
