Tohoku Electric Power, Chiba Eco Energy, and Cyrinx partnered to develop an agrisolar business, the companies announced on August 26, 2025.
According to the statement, the three companies will work to expand agrisolar generation while “pursuing the multifaceted value of this technology.” The partners plan to initially focus on the Tohoku TSO area, which comprises the region’s six prefectures alongside a portion of Niigata Prefecture. They have been jointly researching efficient mounting methods in preparation for commercialization.
The partnership between one of Japan’s major utilities, the Chiba-based agrisolar developer and services company, and the energy technology start-up highlights growing interest in agrisolar amid dwindling availability of land suitable for regular ground-mounted projects.
It follows multiple other developments in the segment from earlier this year, including Toyoda Gosei’s investment in Agritree, Yanmar and Kubota’s initiatives to build out agrisolar portfolios, and Mizuho Securities’ structuring of a fund consisting of such power plants. Agrisolar has also received government support in the form of subsidies alongside other dual-purpose installation methods, such as floating.
