Tokyu Land commissioned two agrisolar power plants with a combined capacity of 2.04MWAC/2.69MWDC in Saitama Prefecture, the company announced on August 4, 2026.
According to the statements, the 1.99MWAC/2.63MWDC ReENE Solar Farm Kumagaya in Kumagaya City began operating on April 1, 2026, and the 50kWAC/60.6kWDC ReENE Solar Farm TENOHA Higashimatsuyama in Higashimatsuyama City on May 1, 2026. The output of both is supplied to Tokyu Land-owned office buildings and other commercial real estate under off-site PPAs.
Farming under the Kumagaya plant, which covers approximately 4ha and is used to grow wheat, is handled by Saitama Fukko. Rice is grown under the smaller Higashimatsuyama asset, which was built by TERRA.
The developer had a portfolio of 173 projects with a combined capacity of about 2GW in operation and under development as of the end of June 2026. It began trialing agrisolar in Higashimatsuyama City in 2022.
Given the increasingly limited availability of land suitable for standalone ground-mounted development, agrisolar is seen as one of the technologies expected to be a significant contributor to the expansion of Japan’s solar capacity in the future. With some projects disrupting the farming they are meant to sustain, however, the government has been discussing tightening development rules for such assets.
