Renova signed a 25-year PPA with Tokyo Gas for the entire output of the 54.6MW Reihoku-Amakusa onshore wind project it is building in Kumamoto Prefecture, the company announced on July 2, 2026.
According to the statement, the project is expected to begin commercial operation in FY2027 and generate approximately 109GWh per year. Tokyo Gas plans to sell the power through its retail business. The PPA was concluded as part of a capital and business alliance the two companies signed in April 2024.
METI data shows the project, owned through Amakusa Reihoku Furyoku LLC and listed at a grid connection capacity of 50.64MW, was certified under the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme in March 2018. At the time, new 20kW and larger onshore wind assets were eligible for 20-year, 21-yen-per-kWh contracts. The company will need to convert the project to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme to enable the PPA.
The project SPC was established in April 2019 by Renova and later secured investments from SMFL Mirai Partners and NCS RE Capital.
Under the capital and business alliance, Tokyo Gas invested about 17.8 billion yen in Renova for an approximately 13% stake, becoming the developer’s second largest shareholder after its founder. At the time, the companies said they also planned to jointly invest in and co-develop onshore wind projects and collaborate on solar, biomass, and battery storage.
Reihoku-Amakusa is Renova’s first onshore wind project as lead developer. The company also holds a stake in the 147MW Abukuma Wind Power Plant and has several other projects, including the up to 288MW Embetsu-Shosambetsu, the up to 105.6MW Yurihonjo-Iwaki, and the up to 280MW Higashidori, undergoing environmental impact assessment.
