Nippon Life Insurance began procuring a portion of the output of Kyuden Mirai Energy’s 27.2MW Karatsu-Chinzei Wind Farm under a physical off-site PPA sleeved by Kyushu Electric Power, the companies announced on July 6, 2026.
According to the statement, supply began on July 1, 2026, and covers 18 of the insurer’s facilities in the Kyushu TSO area. While the asset generates approximately 52GWh annually, the volume contracted under the PPA was not disclosed.
METI data shows the power plant, located in Karatsu City, Saga Prefecture, was certified under the feed-in-tariff (FIT) scheme in FY2016, when 20kW and larger onshore wind projects were eligible for a 22-yen-per-kWh tariff for 20 years. It was commissioned in November 2021, with its contract valid until October 2041.
Kyuden Mirai Energy converted Karatsu-Chinzei Wind Farm to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme in April 2026 to enable the company’s first wind PPA, an approximately 500MWh per year scheme with bolt manufacturer Hamadaya Group.
The insurance company previously disclosed an on-site PPA with TESS Engineering and an off-site solar deal with Kansai Electric Power.
