A.D.Works agreed to acquire two high-voltage grid-scale battery storage projects in Nikko City, Tochigi Prefecture, and Matsumoto City, Nagano Prefecture, from an undisclosed seller, parent company AD Works Group announced on September 25, 2026.
According to the statement, both of the approximately 2MW/8MWh assets are scheduled to begin commercial operation in January 2028. The acquisition of the Nikko City project is conditional on the confirmation of grid connection terms.
The company said the two projects bring its total portfolio to 11 sites, including two operational and nine under development, and that it aims to acquire four more by the end of FY2026. It added that it targets having eight facilities online by the end of FY2027 and all 15 by the end of FY2028. A.D.Works plans to then consider selling a part of the portfolio to secure capital for further development.
Assuming an average of 11 assets in operation, the company expects to generate 800 million to 1.3 billion yen in annual operating profit before depreciation from its grid-scale battery storage business.
A.D.Works first announced its entry into grid-scale battery storage in April 2025. It commissioned its first project, the 2MW/8MWh ADW Mie Matsusaka Power Storage Station, in early 2026, and its second same-scale asset in Kumamoto Prefecture at the end of August 2026.
