AMP-lify began construction of a 50MW/200MWh grid-scale battery storage project in Mihama Town, Fukui Prefecture, and closed the project’s financing, the company announced on October 14, 2026.
According to the statement, the project is scheduled to begin commercial operation in 2027. It will operate on a merchant basis, participating in the wholesale electricity, balancing, and capacity markets. The asset will be co-located with a separate 2MW/8MWh high-voltage battery storage facility.
Project finance was arranged by ING, which also serves as the sole lender, deal contingent hedge provider, and green loan coordinator for the 6.48 billion yen loan facility. The bank said the transaction is its first grid-scale battery storage financing in Japan.
While AMP-lify did not disclose the equipment supplier, it might use battery systems from Trina Storage, which signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in September 2026 to supply approximately 1GWh for the developer’s projects in Japan.
AMP-lify was launched as Amp Energy in 2016 and renamed after Aravest and Banpu NEXT took a majority stake in the developer. The company said it aims to bring online over 1GWh of grid-scale battery storage between 2027 and 2030. Its website shows 122MWh under development in Yamaguchi Prefecture in addition to the Fukui projects.
