Like other companies in the industry, Green Energy & Company is shifting its focus from solar toward BESS.

Green Energy & Company will aim to develop and build 1GWh of grid-scale battery storage by April 2029.

It announced the target on May 21, 2025, following a review of early-stage activities in the industry done under its medium-term management plan published on July 31, 2024, which primarily focused on solar plant development and EPC services. According to the statement, Green Energy & Company is considering releasing detailed information about progress toward the target in about a year.

To date, the company’s involvement with BESS primarily involved providing engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) services to other developers. Among others, its subsidiaries secured contracts for 2MW/8MWh-scale projects being developed by Q.ENEST Holdings in Tochigi Prefecture and by undisclosed developers in Tokushima Prefecture and Nagano Prefecture.

Separately, the company also holds economic interest in a 2MW/8MWh asset in Kirishima City, Kagoshima Prefecture, developed jointly with JPN ENERGY Integrated System and DMM.com, which was commissioned in 2024.

Green Energy & Company also partnered with real estate company Grandes to provide a one-stop BESS solution covering land acquisition, EPC, operation and maintenance (O&M), and aggregation as part of the latter’s plan to invest 600 million yen in grid-scale storage. In April 2025, it took a 51% stake in GREEN ACTION to expand into grid-scale storage aggregation.

Founded as a zero-emissions housing developer in 2009, the company expanded into solar power plant-related businesses from 2012 before entering storage in recent years.
