Enehub Charts of the Week

Both non-FIT renewable and non-renewable NFCs cleared at 1.3 yen/kWh in FY2025 Round 2 held this week, marking the first time either has hit the ceiling price in a fiscal year’s first two auctions. The milestone follows Round 1, when non-FIT renewable NFCs traded above the 0.6 yen floor for the first time in a Round 1 auction.

Digital Grid’s auctions are among the few publicly available data points on PPA pricing in Japan. In the latest sixth round, 116 power generators participated with 426 projects totaling 1.75GW, seeking between 11.5 and 41.5 yen/kWh (16.1 yen/kWh on average). A total of 26 projects with a combined 35MW were matched at an average desired buyer price of 15.2 yen/kWh.

Over 75% of Japan’s power generation capacity continues to remain in the hands of the former regional monopolies, J-POWER, and their joint ventures.
