Amada began procuring power under onsite PPAs from rooftop solar systems at three of its factories and plans to add a ground-mounted plant at its Fujinomiya Works in Fujinomiya City, Shizuoka Prefecture, in June 2027, the company announced on September 2, 2026.
According to the statement, the projects mark the industrial machinery manufacturer’s first use of PPAs and will total 5.38MWDC. They will operate under 20-year contracts, generating an estimated 6GWh per year.
SMFL Mirai Partners owns the largest of the four assets, a 2.68MWDC rooftop power plant at Amada’s Toki Works in Toki City, Gifu Prefecture, which was commissioned in January 2026.
Urban Energy is the PPA provider for the remaining three, including a 680kWDC rooftop system at Fukushima Factory in Nihonmatsu City, Fukushima Prefecture, which began operation in February 2026, a 1.37MWDC asset at Ono Factory in Ono City, Hyogo Prefecture, brought online in July 2026, and the planned 652kWDC ground-mounted power plant at Fujinomiya Works, which will use idle land within the site.
Combined with 1.05MWDC of self-owned solar previously installed across six facilities, the PPAs will bring Amada’s onsite generation capacity to 6.44MWDC, which the company expects to cover about 11% of its domestic power consumption.
