Amazon will purchase power from Cosmo Eco Power’s upcoming 33MW Shin-Mutsu Ogawara Wind Farm and ENEOS Renewable Energy’s 9.5MW solar power plant in Yamaguchi Prefecture through 20-year off-site PPAs. Combined with previously announced PPAs, Amazon has now secured over 160MW worth of PPAs in Japan.
The wind project in Rokkasho Village, Aomori Prefecture, will consist of eight 4.3MW turbines restricted to maximum combined output of 33MW. Cosmo Eco Power is expected start delivering power from the onshore wind power plant to Amazon in the first half of 2025. This deal is Amazon’s first wind PPA in Japan.
ENEOS Renewable Energy is expected to start supplying Amazon with power from the solar power plant, which is Amazon’s first utility-scale solar power plant PPA in Japan, by the fall of 2025.
The Japan Energy Hub CPPA module shows that prior to these two deals, which have now been added to the database, Amazon (including Amazon Data Services Japan) signed at least three PPAs with three different developers involving portfolios of smaller-scale solar assets totaling over 120MW.
