Port Inc. will develop three 2MW/8MWh grid-scale battery storage projects across the Tokyo, Chubu, and Kansai TSO areas, the company announced on May 26, 2026. With the latest additions, its operational and under-development portfolio will reach 10 assets.

According to the statement, the additions include one project each in Tochigi, Shiga, and Nagano prefectures. They are scheduled to start commercial operation in January, September, and December 2027, respectively. Construction across all three sites is expected to begin between June and July 2026.

While Port did not disclose the assets’ planned aggregators, it said each would be contracted to a different service provider that it has not worked with before to compare performance. Its existing assets are aggregated by GridBeyond and Second Foundation. The company added that it would also consider in-house optimization in the future.

Port plans to secure green loans from multiple financial institutions and invest approximately 1.2 billion yen across the three assets. The company previously attributed the relatively low average capital expenditures of 400 million yen per facility to fully developing projects in-house instead of acquiring them from third parties.

Previously, Port commissioned three demonstration assets in Gunma Prefecture in 2025. Following encouraging early results from the pilot program, it formally expanded into grid-scale battery storage by adding four planned facilities to its portfolio.
