Aoyama Gakuin will procure the output of seven Shimizu Corporation solar power plants under a five-year off-site PPA sleeved by its retail unit Smart Eco Energy, the organizations announced on December 16, 2025.
According to the statement, Smart Eco Energy will supply the output of its parent company’s assets to seven facilities owned by the school operator, including its Aoyama Campus in Shibuya City, Tokyo, and Sagamihara Campus in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, between April 2026 and March 2031. It will also sell power and non-fossil certificates (NFC) sourced elsewhere to Aoyama Gakuin under a retail plan to cover the remainder of its consumption.
The deal includes four plants in the Tohoku TSO area (two each in Iwate and Fukushima) and three in Chubu (one each in Nagano, Shizuoka, and Aichi).
Earlier this year, Shimizu and Smart Eco Energy announced a similar PPA-plus-retail scheme with Kogakuin University, agreeing to supply its Shinjuku and Hachioji campuses, and related junior high and high schools for 10 years from a 2MWAC/3.5MWDC solar plant and cover the shortfall from other sources.
Shimizu holds stakes in over 100MW of solar, wind, small-scale hydro, and biomass power plants.
