Au Renewable Energy began the environmental impact assessment process for a 29.9MWDC solar power plant in Higashiagatsuma Town on by submitting a methodology document on March 17, 2025, as required by a Gunma Prefecture ordinance.

According to the document, au Renewable Energy is looking to build the “auRE Gunma Prefecture Higashiagatsuma Solar Power Plant G1” on an approximately 96ha site. Construction is expected to begin in July 2027, with completion planned for March 2029.

The company was established in 2023, with au Energy Holdings owning 80% and Kyocera the remainder. Its purpose is to supply power to au Energy Holdings’ parent KDDI’s facilities such as base stations and data centers. The company formed multiple partnerships to develop solar projects since then, including with Kikusui and Next Energy. In December 2023, it commissioned its first power plant, a 950kW asset in Saitama Prefecture.

“Currently, we plan to sell the generated power through PPA,” said au Renewable Energy in an email response to Japan Energy Hub. The company did not disclose whether all of the generated power will be supplied to KDDI or whether other offtakers will be considered too.
