Cosmo Eco Power signed virtual PPAs with JR Kyushu and Murata Manufacturing for portions of the non-fossil certificates (NFCs) related to the output of its 14 MW Oita Wind Farm in Oita Prefecture and 48.3 MW Chuuki Wind Farm in Wakayama Prefecture, the companies announced on January 23, 2026.
JR Kyushu said it signed the 17-year PPA on January 5, 2026. It plans to procure 5 GWh of NFCs derived from Oita Wind Farm’s production each year, which is equivalent to about 16% of the power plant’s total output, and use them to offset the emissions associated with Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen operations.
The deal with Murata Manufacturing followed on January 14, 2026, and will involve both of the power plants. The electronic component manufacturer’s offtake volume is likely to reach about 29 GWh annually (estimated based on a 0.47 kg CO₂/kWh emission intensity).
Cosmo Eco Power commissioned Chuuki Wind Farm in April 2021 and Oita Wind Farm in April 2023. METI data shows that both were operating under 22 yen per kWh feed-in-tariff (FIT) contracts before being converted to the feed-in-premium (FIP) scheme, which allows owners to sell power and NFCs under PPAs, effective April 1, 2025.
Portions of Chuuki Wind Farm’s output are also used for PPAs with JR West (40 GWh annually), NTN Corporation (10 GWh annually), and SECOM.
Both JR Kyushu and Murata Manufacturing disclosed multiple other PPAs prior to their agreements with Cosmo Eco Power. The former, among others, signed a 20-year virtual PPA with Sustech and the latter a 115MW deal with Renova.
