Cosmo Eco Power signed a 16-year virtual PPA with bearings manufacturer NTN Corporation on May 7, 2025, the companies announced on May 12, 2025.
According to their statement, NTN will procure 10GWh of non-fossil certificates (NFCs) annually from Cosmo Eco Power’s Chuuki Wind Farm in Wakayama Prefecture. Cosmo Eco Power will sell the corresponding power into the wholesale market and NTN will continue to buy power separately through an undisclosed retailer.
Chuuki Wind Farm, comprising 23 2.1MW turbines totaling 48.3MW, was commissioned in April 2021 and generates approximately 101GWh annually.
In addition to the agreement with NTN, which is estimated to account for about 10% of its output, Cosmo Eco Power also signed a deal for an annual 40GWh of NFCs from the wind farm with JR West in March 2025. Both PPAs were enabled by an April 2025 regulatory change that expanded bilateral NFC trading eligibility to feed-in-tariff (FIT) to feed-in-premium (FIP) converted assets commissioned in FY2021 or earlier.
The deal is NTN’s first virtual PPA. It follows on-site PPAs the company deployed at several domestic and international production facilities between 2016 and 2024.
Correction (May 16, 2025): The previous version of this article incorrectly indicated that eligibility for FIT-to-FIP conversion itself was expanded.
