Sanei Sangyo ordered PowerX battery systems for four high-voltage grid-scale storage projects in the Chugoku, Shikoku, and Kyushu TSO areas, the manufacturer announced on June 19, 2026.

According to the statement, each of the four projects will be 2MW/8.23MWh and use three Mega Power 2700A units. A facility in Tamano City, Okayama Prefecture, is expected to be completed first, targeting a summer 2026 COD. Assets in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and Mitoyo City, Kagawa Prefecture, are scheduled to follow in fall 2026, with the last one in Arao City, Kumamoto Prefecture, due to come online in spring 2027.

A PowerX spokesperson confirmed to Japan Energy Hub that the Okayama project has been awarded METI’s FY2025 subsidy for promoting grid-scale battery storage deployment. Data released by the Sustainable Open Innovation Initiative (SII), the organization administering the program, shows Sanei Sangyo will receive about 148 million yen.

The newly announced facilities follow the company’s previously disclosed four high-voltage grid-scale storage projects, all of which will also use PowerX battery systems. The company recently completed its first asset, the 2MW/8.23MWh Uekimachi Power Storage Station in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture.

Sanei Sangyo previously focused mainly on building solar power systems owned by third party owners and, more recently, developing projects under PPAs. According to its website, the company completed over 1,000 projects totaling about 165 MW.
