Eurus ordered 14 4.2MW onshore wind turbines from GE Vernova to repower Eurus Iwaya Wind Farm and Eurus Shitsukari Wind Farm in Aomori Prefecture, the manufacturer announced on January 9, 2025.

Nine of the turbines, with a combined output of 37.8MW, will be used for the repowered Iwaya project. Five, with a combined output of 21MW, will be used for the Shitsukari project. Due to limited grid connection capacity, the output of the two power plants will be limited to 32.5MW and 19.25MW, the output of the original power plants. The two power plants are expected to be commissioned in 2028.

The Iwaya power plant was originally commissioned in November 2001, comprising of 25 1.3MW Siemens turbines. The Shitsukari power plant, comprising of 11 1.75MW Vestas turbines, followed in October 2003. Both were shut down in March 2023.

With 3.3GW of operational onshore wind capacity spread across 95 projects and more under development, Toyota Tsusho-owned Eurus Energy is Japan’s largest wind developer. In April 2025, the company is expected to be merged with Terras Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Toyota Tsusho focused on developing solar projects, with Eurus being the surviving company.
