On September 21, 2024, Tokyo Gas commissioned the 75MW Ichihara Yawatafuto Biomass Power Plant in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, the company announced on September 25, 2024.
Each year, the power plant constructed through Prominet Power, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, is expected to generate approximately 530GWh of power, which will be sold at 24 yen/kWh through a 20-year feed-in-tariff contract. Another wholly-owned subsidiary of Tokyo Gas, Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions, will be responsible for the facility’s operation and maintenance (O&M).
Tokyo Gas Engineering Solutions also served as the project’s owner’s engineering consultant. Engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) work was carried out by Toyo Engineering Corporation.
Ichihara Yawatafuto Biomass Power Plant, which is Tokyo Gas’s first biomass power plant in the Tokyo TSO area, will be fueled by approximately 270,000 tons of wood pellets and similar biomass fuel.
Prominet Power acquired the project alongside the 51.5MW Fushiki Manyofuto Biomass Power Plant project, which commissioned in 2022, from an Equis Group investment fund in 2020.
