Nishitetsu Shizen secured a 607 million yen term loan with a commitment period from Higo Bank for two solar projects totaling 2.75MWAC/4.14MWDC that it is building in Kyushu, its parent companies Nishi-Nippon Railroad and Shizen Energy announced on December 22, 2025.
According to the statement, the contract was executed on October 31, 2025, and the loan arranged to fund the project’s construction and operation is repayable in, at most, 21 years and six months. Both projects are being developed under the Ministry of the Environment’s Decarbonization Leading Areas initiatives and are expected to sell power through PPAs.
The larger of the two is a 1.99MWAC/3.08MWDC solar power plant in an undisclosed municipality within Kumamoto Prefecture that is expected to generate about 3.7GWh annually. Its construction began in November 2025, with commissioning planned for April 2027.
The smaller is a 750kWAC/1.06MWDC project in Ukiha City, Fukuoka Prefecture, that has been under construction since October 2025. Nishitetsu Shizen plans to bring it online in October 2026 and produce approximately 1.1GWh per year.
Nishi-Nippon Railroad and Shizen Energy established the Kyushu-focused 50:50 joint venture in 2022. In addition to developing solar power plants for on-site and off-site PPAs, Nishitetsu Shizen also entered grid-scale battery storage, commissioning its first two high-voltage projects in 2024.
