Cosmo Eco Power started the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 200MW onshore wind project in Aomori Prefecture by submitting a “document on primary environmental impact consideration” to the relevant stakeholders.
According to the document, “Shimokita Wind Farm” will consist of up to 40 turbines, 4 to 5MW each, spread across an approximately 2,848ha area in Higashidori Village and Mutsu City. The company is aiming to begin construction in 2029 or later and commission the project in 2032 or later.
Shimokita Wind Farm will be located adjacent to Eurus Energy’s 13MW Odanosawa Wind Farm, which is expected to be shut down for repowering between July 2025 and March 2027. Higashidori is also home to Cosmo Eco Power’s recently commissioned Shin-Iwaya Wind Park. Eurus Energy’s 10.5MW Mameda Wind Farm and Kuroshio Wind Power’s 1.99MW Nanohana Wind Power Plant can be found in the nearby Yokohama Town.
With the area offering favorable wind conditions, multiple other onshore wind power plants are under development across Higashidori, Mutsu, and Yokohama. Eurus Energy submitted draft or final environmental impact assessment reports for seven projects totaling over 170MW and Green Power for a 140.8MW project. At least five projects led by Renova, Cosmo Eco Power, and others, and totaling over 650MW, are in the earlier stages of the assessment process.
Cosmo Eco Power has 19 operational onshore wind power plants with a combined output of over 300MW around Japan. The company also has multiple other projects undergoing the environmental assessment process including the 150MW Yagyu Wind Farm and the up to 100MW Akita Yurihonjo Wind Farm.
