wpd Japan-affiliated Kuji-Yamagata Furyoku Hatsuden LLC launched the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 97.6MW onshore wind project in Kuji City, Iwate Prefecture.
According to a primary environmental impact consideration submitted to METI and relevant local governments on January 26, 2026, the company aims to install 10 to 36 turbines, 4.2MW to 6.1MW each, spread across an approximately 184ha site.
At this stage, construction of Kuji-Yamagata Wind Farm is scheduled to begin in 2031, with commercial operation expected to begin three years after groundbreaking.
Operational wind power plants in the vicinity include J-POWER-affiliated 21MW Green Power Kuzumaki commissioned in 2003 and 44MW Kuzumaki No. 2 brought online in 2020. Several other projects, including Tokyu Land’s up to 55.9MW Iwate Kuji, Invenergy’s up to 120.4MW Nishikuji, and HSE’s up to 105MW Kuji-Yamagata, are undergoing environmental impact assessment.
The Germany-based developer and operator established its Japan unit in 2018. Among other activities in the country, wpd has partnered with GPSS Holdings on onshore wind project development. In 2025, they signed a PPA for a joint 7.5MW project in Shizuoka Prefecture with Nomura Real Estate.
