ImageONE enters BESS market with early-stage extra high-voltage project acquisition, considers options

ImageONE did not disclose the project’s location.

ImageONE agreed to acquire a project site for a 30MW/130MWh grid-scale battery storage facility from FD Corporation for an undisclosed sum on September 30, 2025, the company announced on the same day.

According to the statement, ImageONE assumed ownership of the grid connection application on the same day, with land transfer planned for September 30, 2026. It retained the right to terminate the contract and receive a full refund if any unresolvable risk is identified. Actual interconnection construction costs significantly exceeding utilities’ initial estimates have been a bottleneck in past cases.

The TSE Standard-listed developer of software solutions for the healthcare industry said it has not yet decided whether it will resell the project to a third party or partner with another company to hold and operate the facility.

The company has limited experience with renewables, including having owned five high-voltage feed-in-tariff (FIT) solar projects totaling about 1MW, which it sold to RB Solar Arc in 2023. METI data shows ImageONE continues to own two low-voltage solar projects in Ibaraki Prefecture.

ImageONE follows several other companies with non-energy core businesses exploring the growing grid-scale battery storage industry. Unlike many newcomers that start with 2MW/8MWh-scale high-voltage projects that are easier to develop and can be connected to the grid faster, ImageONE plans its entry with an extra high-voltage facility.
