Hokkaido government certified Batteria Eniwa LLC’s planned 29.4MW grid-scale battery storage project in Eniwa City under its GX (Green Transformation) promotion tax scheme on July 16, 2026.
Separately, it revoked the certification of GX12ONE LLC’s Ishikari battery storage business, which comprised two 2MW projects, on July 3, 2026, without providing a reason. It is unclear whether the cancellation was initiated by the government or the operator. GX12TWO LLC, a similarly named special purpose company (SPC) holding a 2MW project in Sapporo, remains certified.
Businesses certified under the scheme are eligible for reductions in select prefectural and municipal taxes for up to 10 years, including full exemption in the first five years and cuts of up to 50% in the remaining period.
The government did not disclose the SPCs’ ownership. Corporate registry records obtained by Japan Energy Hub suggest Batteria Eniwa is affiliated with ReENE Energy (formerly known as Renewable Japan) and GX12ONE and GX12TWO with SDK, a Tokyo-based electrical construction company.
According to National Tax Agency data, there are seven “Batteria” LLCs, covering locations such as Tokorozawa City and Ina Town in Saitama Prefecture, Kuwana City in Mie Prefecture, and Sabae City in Fukui Prefecture, that are registered at ReENE Energy’s headquarters. Batteria Eniwa and Batteria Shiraishi, both covering Hokkaido, have been moved to the office of an accounting firm in Tokyo.
The tax scheme was introduced in 2025, with two SPARX Group-led 50MW/175.5MWh grid-scale storage projects in Sapporo City being the first to be certified. Since then, other battery and data center projects, as well as PowerX’s planned manufacturing factory have been approved.
