The companies target commissioning the project in 2034.

Orix and Eurus Energy Holdings submitted the environmental impact assessment methodology for an up to 48.8MW onshore wind project in Akita and Yurihonjo Cities, Akita Prefecture.

According to the document made available for public viewing on July 15, 2026, the companies plan to install between eight and 11 turbines, 4.2MW to 6.1MW each, across an approximately 1,253ha site. They aim to begin construction in March 2031 and commence commercial operations in March 2034.

The methodology is the first environmental impact assessment-related document the project has submitted. With a capacity between 37.5MW and 50MW, it is classified as a Class 2 onshore wind power plant, making it exempt from submitting a primary consideration that marks the beginning of the process for larger projects.

Several small-scale, mainly single-turbine 2MW, onshore wind power plants are already operational in the area. Others, including Vena Energy’s up to 138.6MW Iwaki-Yuwa and Renova’s up to 105.6MW Yurihonjo-Iwaki, are at various stages of the environmental impact assessment.

In addition to the Akita project, Orix also has two projects in Hokkaido that are undergoing the process, including the up to 189MW Seiryo, which has been in the methodology stage since 2022, and the up to 85.4MW Yakiyama, which has been in the primary consideration stage since 2024.

Eurus Energy holds stakes in 42 operational domestic onshore projects totaling over 1.2GW The company also has several projects under construction and development.
