BLD Power Stations and Intellect will jointly invest in an approximately 2MW/8MWh grid-scale battery storage project in Kumamoto City, Kumamoto Prefecture, the latter announced on August 5, 2026.
According to the statement, the project will be owned by the special purpose company JREF Kumamoto Kita-ku Chikudensho LLC and funded by the two partners via a TK-GK (silent partnership) scheme. It is scheduled to be commissioned in June 2027.
Intellect will be responsible for development, engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC), as well as operation and maintenance (O&M). Its affiliate NAXT will handle asset management. The facility will be built on land adjacent to a wedding venue owned by BLD Power Stations’ group company BLD WEDDINGS. The companies did not disclose the project’s aggregator.
The project marks the first-known investment in battery storage by BLD Power Stations. The company previously developed over 45 power plants across technologies including solar, wind, and geothermal, that generate more than 70GWh annually.
