Sunpin Japan connected the 45MW/180MWh SP Shiga Otsu Power Storage Station in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture, to the grid on November 5, 2026, the company announced on the same day.
According to the statement, the extra high-voltage facility in the Kansai TSO area is expected to begin commercial operation in December 2026. E-Flow will handle market optimization.
Development including land acquisition, permitting, and grid connection was led by Sunpin Japan. Its group company Blue Point Power Solution was in charge of engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and might serve as the facility’s operations and maintenance (O&M) contractor.
SP Shiga Otsu Power Storage Station is the developer’s first grid-scale battery storage asset in the country. In March 2026, the company disclosed five additional similar-scale projects totaling 1GWh across Ibaraki, Shiga, Osaka, and Fukushima prefectures, and said it was looking for investors.
The California-based solar and battery storage developer Sunpin Solar established Sunpin Japan in March 2024.
