Japan Wind Development-affiliated Minamisatsuma Furyoku LLC launched the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 73.1MW onshore wind project in Minamisatsuma City, Kagoshima Prefecture.
According to a primary environmental impact consideration document made available for public viewing on September 18, 2026, the developer plans to install up to 17 turbines, about 4.3MW each, across an approximately 916.4ha site. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2031 or later, with commercial operation following in 2035 or later.
METI data shows Shinato no Kaze owned all three onshore wind projects with active feed-in-tariff (FIT) certifications in Minamisatsuma City, totaling 18.84MW, as of the end of July 2026. Additionally, Hokutaku’s subsidiary Kagoshima Furyoku Hatsuden Kenkyusho operates the 17.5MW Banya Wind Power Plant, whose FIT contract has expired, in the city. The unit launched the environmental impact assessment process for a replacement project in July 2020.
The Infroneer Holdings subsidiary Japan Wind Development has completed 37 wind power plants totaling 605.49MW across the country. It is developing several other projects, including the up to 85.4MW Kaminokuni, the up to 37.8MW Hiranai, and the 18MW Tahara-Nakayama, which are at various stages of the environmental impact assessment process.
