ORIX partnered with Mazda on a scheme combining onsite and virtual PPAs to supply the automaker and its suppliers, the companies announced on October 30, 2026.
According to the statement, ORIX developed a 2.2MW solar plant at Mazda KD Center, a logistics facility in Hiroshima City, Hiroshima Prefecture, from which it will deliver power to Mazda and Mazda Logistics under an onsite PPA from November 2026. Non-fossil certificates (NFCs) linked to the asset’s surplus output, which is expected to be about 23% of the project’s approximately 2.6GWh annual generation, will be sold to the automaker’s supplier Toyo Kohan under a virtual PPA.
Additionally, ORIX will install 800kW rooftop solar plants under onsite PPAs at Mazda’s factory in Miyoshi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, and its supplier Keylex’s Hofu Plant in Hofu City, Yamaguchi Prefecture. The systems, each of which will generate about 900MWh annually, are scheduled to be commissioned in December 2026 and June 2027, respectively. The automaker said it will also add energy storage using EV lithium-ion batteries at the Miyoshi Plant.
Solcom is handling the power plants’ engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC).
Enehub’s PPA database shows that Mazda and its supplier Toyo Seat previously signed an offsite PPA sleeved by Chugoku Electric Power for a 4.9MW solar portfolio owned by Choshu Industry. Toyo Kohan has disclosed multiple deals including a 64MW offsite scheme with the utility that uses agrisolar plants and an 18GWh-per-year virtual scheme backed by an HSE wind asset.
Other automakers and their suppliers have also been sourcing renewable power using PPAs. For example, Honda procures NFCs from Invenergy’s 63MW Rusutsu Wind Energy Center in Hokkaido under a virtual scheme, while Subaru signed solar and biomass offsite deals.
