ENEOS Renewable Energy submitted a draft environmental impact assessment for an up to 54.6MW onshore wind project in Akita Prefecture on July 16, 2025.
According to the document, the project is expected to consist of 13 4.2MW turbines, with 10 of those sited in Mitane Town and three in Gojome Town. ENEOS Renewable Energy plans to begin construction in May 2027 and targets March 2031 COD.
Mitane Gojome was awarded a 15.53 yen per kWh feed-in-tariff (FIT) in Japan’s FY2022 onshore wind auction. The project’s environmental impact assessment process was launched in November 2022 and proceeded to the methodology stage in April 2023.
If built as planned, the power plant will join multiple other operational onshore wind assets in the area, including Meidensha unit M Winds’ 28MW Hachiryu Wind Power Plant mainly commissioned in 2006 (a single 2.5MW unit was added in 2013), the 7.5MW Eurus Akita Kotooka Wind Farm commissioned in 2019, and the JR-EAST Energy Development-led 7.5MW Wind Station Mitane also commissioned in 2019.
Separately, Sumitomo-affiliated Summit Energy launched the environmental impact assessment process for an up to 100MW project in the neighboring Ogata Village in 2013. Its current status is unclear.
ENEOS Renewable Energy operates 13 wind projects across Japan totaling 237.5MW, with an additional 21MW project under construction and set to commission in February 2027. The company also has multiple other onshore projects undergoing the environmental impact assessment process, including the up to 270MW Soya Kuryo Minami in Hokkaido and the up to 45MW Nosouke Toge in Tohoku.
