Real estate developer Dualtap will build grid-scale battery storage in its first foray into energy, the TSE Standard-listed company said on April 22, 2025.
Dualtap acquired rights for a 3,887m2 site for its first project, a 1.99MW/8MWh facility in Kisarazu City, Chiba Prefecture, in March 2025. Construction is set to begin this month with commissioning expected by the end of the year. Once completed, the company plans to sell the asset.
Initially focusing on developing and building projects for sale, Dualtap is also eyeing ownership and operation of grid-scale BESS assets in the future with the aim of generating recurring income.
The company aims to leverage its land procurement, development, and project management know-how from its real estate business to grow the battery storage business. According to the statement, the company is also considering incorporating energy operations into its core condominium business, including developing renewables-powered buildings.
Dualtap follows multiple other real estate developers, including the publicly traded Wada Kohsan and A.D.Works in entering the grid-scale storage market amid rising demand driven by growth in intermittent renewable capacity. Unlike the two companies, which plan to own the assets and take on power market price risk, Dualtap is taking a phased approach by first focusing on projects for resale.
