ENEOS Renewable Energy commissioned the 18MWAC/22.9MWDC Osaka Mega Solar Power Plant in Takaishi Town, Osaka Prefecture, on January 1, 2025, with an expected annual generation of 30.3GWh. Data suggests the generated power is being supplied to JR West through an off-site PPA.
According to METI data, the project was initially awarded a 10.50 yen per kWh FIT in Japan’s sixth solar auctionand FIT-certified in March 2021. It was re-certified on January 1, 2025. The re-certification suggests a switch to the FIP scheme, which would allow the project to secure revenues through the markets or PPAs instead of relying on the uneconomical 10.50 yen per kWh tariff.
The project’s specifications including its TSO area (Kansai), capacity (18MW), expected annual generation (30GWh), and planned COD (FY2024) align with an off-site PPA announced by ENEOS Renewable Energy in May 2024. The statement issued at the time said ENEOS Renewable Energy would supply power to JR West, which would use it to power the Kansai area portion of Sanyo Shinkansen, through Kansai Electric Power.
METI data shows that as of the end of January 2025, ENEOS Renewable Energy had four additional uncommissioned 10MWAC+ FIT/FIP-certified projects in its pipeline alongside several smaller, sub-2MWAC projects. These include These include 10MWAC in Toyama Prefecture, 12MWAC in Niigata and Ibaraki each, and an 18MWAC project in Aichi.
